In what many modern day citizens would call
the good old days, the game of Texas Holdem was a different animal altogether,
and held little resemblance to the games that are played in the modern day.
These games were conducted in windowless back rooms and brothels, rounds of
cards used to play the game of Texas Holdem dealt out while all manner of
improprieties took place elsewhere in the establishment. No doubt raids were
conducted by local gendarmes whenever the proprietor of the local Texas Holdem
gaming establishment lacked the presence of mind to bribe the officials before
hand, usually resulting in the displacement of the employees and patrons of the
establishment and a resulting lack of clientele.
In these heady days of sprawling country meadows and wide open territories, the professional gambler was a common site, the respectable gentleman of his day. Whether Texas Holdem or some other type of gambling was his forte, he was well known and generally respected in the communities he frequented, provided he wasn't overly liberal with the winning of town folks' money on a regular basis. His arrival was heralded by the practicing of the card players favorite games and wagers of chance, and the eager anticipation of the crowd for a chance to win at Texas Holdem.
But even these romanticized versions of legends from pulp novels could be plagued by a slump at the Texas Holdem table, a dangerous and unprofitable condition so terrifying that most professional gamblers prefer not to even speak the term aloud for fear of experiencing a slump of their own like some form of arcane jinx or voodoo hex. These traveling gamblers, highly successful after a fashion, could be wiped out and financially destroyed by a few bad hands, and many Texas Holdem players were discouraged from the playing and wagering of the game due to these events.
But there is a way to easily survive a
slump or a round of bad luck at Texas Holdem. By altering the style of play, or
limiting playing altogether, experts agree that slumps can be easily managed and
recovered from if the professional gambler is patient, committed and determined
to prevail. This technique of controlled betting and limited wagers in Texas
Holdem is sometimes the perfect vehicle for the facilitation of the player's
renewed or consistent winning ability. This process can be compared with
learning to ride a bike all over again by starting with the basics. The first
function of a bicycle that the rider needs to learn is the utilization and
operation of the braking devices.
Learning when and how to stop are critical not only to the use of the bicycle, but to the very survival of the rider himself, as the ability to identify dangerous situations and how to avoid them are essential skills to the operation of the bicycle and continued survival of the rider, very similar to Texas Holdem. Being able to stop betting at Texas Holdem and knowing when to stop and what amounts to limit the gambler to are crucial skills to understand before considering the options involved in surviving a slump. Simply bet in very small amounts until your luck gradually improves.
